NCR Program

On September 17, 2009, Avenida Guadalupe was awarded the Mayor's Best NCR Award at the 2009 HACER (Honor, Award, Celebrate, Evolve, Renew) Gala. The Breakfast Gala was held as the premier event during the 2009 Community Development Summit. Five of our local businesses also received awards: Alamo Federal Credit Union won the Business of the Year and Partnership of the Year; Community First won for Community Excellence; Agora Ministries won for Volunteers of the Year; and Giovanni's won the the Citibank ($10K) Business Improvement Grant. Congratulations to all our businesses you honor us with your community commitment.

 

Committees

The NCR Program approach is loosely based on the Main Street Four-Point approach which is a comprehensive revitalization process that focuses on all aspects of a commercial business district.

 

NCR/City of San Antonio Incentives

OPERATION FACELIFT

Operation Facelift Façade Improvement Grants are only available in NCR Corridors. These grants provide matching funds (get reimbursed up to $15,000) for permanent façade improvements that help reverse deterioration of commercial structures and attract new business and private investment.

 

C.A.R.E.S. Workforce Development Program

The Career Advancement Resources and Educational Services (C.A.R.E.S.) Workforce Development Program is a free, 6 week, 40 hours per week education process by which qualified candidates become empowered to acquire and retain employment. The main purpose is to educate and train an individual and equip him or her with the business and professional skills necessary to enter the San Antonio workplace.

 

 

3C Computer Network

The Avenida Guadalupe Association (Avenida) has launched three free access computer centers as part of the national Latino Technology Network (LTN) which seeks to provide technology and training access for low- to moderate- income Latinos.The computer centers will also be used to train and support small businesses in Avenida’s West Side community.

 

 

Avenida Guadalupe's Economic Development Grant

The Avenida Guadalupe Association (Avenida) was awarded a $610,000 grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to promote economic development on the westside. The funding will support economic development that will create 43 full-time jobs in the healthcare, retail, and real estate industries. The Avenida Guadalupe Neighborhood is a federally designated Empowerment Zone and a city designated Neighborhood Commercial Revitalization (NCR) district. With this funding Avenida plans to invest in new and existing businesses along Guadalupe Street. The funding will also help restore aging storefronts, erect new signage, construct a 10,000 square foot building for new businesses and establish a commercial kitchen. Avenida is proud to work with a wide range of community partners in our neighborhood, including National Association of Community Asset Builders (NALCAB), Baptist Child and Family Services (BCFS)- Guadalupe Street Coffee, Westside Development Corporation (WDC), Community First Health Plans, Sterling Bank, and the City of San Antonio. For nearly 30 years, the Avenida has worked to create a strong sense of community for the neighborhood (a 3.5 square mile area that is bordered on the North by Commerce Street, S. Laredo on the South, Zarzamora on the West and Frio on the East).
